You play White against a local computer. Select one of your pieces, then a marked legal square. Use Tab and Enter, or the arrow keys inside the board.
Castling, en passant and all four promotion choices are supported. A red ring marks a king in check. Checkmate wins; stalemate is a draw.
Casual looks one move ahead. Thoughtful considers your reply too. These are lightweight, unrated practice opponents. Take back rewinds your last move and the computer reply.
Develop your knights and bishops, protect your king, and look for undefended pieces before moving your queen.
This preview ends threefold repetitions and 50-move draws automatically. Insufficient material is also a draw. No clocks or network play.
Legal-move engine: chess.js 1.4.0, BSD-2-Clause. Original interface, pieces and practice bot.
